Bromo runs on a volcano’s schedule, not a tour’s
Bromo is an active volcano inside a national park with a quota system, periodic closures of the crater rim and the sand sea, and an alert level set by the volcanology agency. A sunrise itinerary that is sold as fixed is being sold on an assumption. Our pages state the current alert level and access status with a date, describe which viewpoints are open under which restrictions, and separate the Penanjakan viewpoint experience from the crater approach, which are affected differently by closures.
Where the information comes from
Alert levels and exclusion radii come from the volcanology agency; quotas, entry tariffs and vehicle rules come from the national park authority; ceremonial closures around Yadnya Kasada follow the Tengger community calendar. Each is dated on the page, and where a change has been announced but not yet reflected in park practice we say which is which.
